Racing tires featuring the first real-time intelligence capability will be introduced on the NASCAR Next Gen Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Garage 56 entry at the Le Mans 24 Hours (June 10-11), enabling the team to read and record pressure and temperature.
Cured into the Goodyear racing tires is a passive, non-battery sensor powered by Goodyear Sightline, the manufacturer’s intelligent technology solution which will provide Hendrick Motorsports – the team running the racecar – with real-time tire performance data. The data will be used by the team’s engineers and drivers to enhance vehicle behavior and performance on track through setup adjustments.
Goodyear has also developed three types of tires for the NASCAR Next Gen Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Garage 56 entry: racing slicks for dry conditions, intermediate wet tires and full wet tires. During the past year, 10 tire tests were carried out at eight locations, with more than 7,500 test miles completed. Each of these tires was built by hand at Goodyear’s Innovation Center Manufacturing plant in Akron, Ohio.
