Goodyear welcomes incoming EU TPMS legislation

Beginning on July 7, new legislation regarding tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) will be implemented across Europe.

This legislation mandates the use of TPMS devices on all new commercial vehicles at the point of registration, including trailers. One key aspect of the new law is that any tire pressure change exceeding 20% must be displayed to the driver in real time, alerting them to potential tire issues before they become hazardous.

Goodyear, a long-standing provider of TPMS solutions, has welcomed this legislation as a positive step toward enhancing safety and efficiency in commercial vehicles.

The company says its existing TPMS solution already exceeds the requirements of the new legislation.

It uses algorithms to predict potential issues before they occur, which, Goodyear says, improves fuel efficiency, safety and tire lifespan. In addition to alerting drivers to pressure issues, Goodyear’s TPMS can also notify the back office.

“Our TPMS solution is engineered to deliver reliable performance and peace of mind, meeting the requirements set forth by the new regulations,” said Piotr Czyżyk, managing director of fleet mobility EMEA at Goodyear.
