The Scorpion BK tire has been re-introduced by Pirelli, after entering the limelight for the first time in 1986 when it was developed for the Lamborghini LM002. Fast forward 37 years and the tire has now been remanufactured using modern day techniques for the Pirelli Collezione – a range of tires designed for application to classic and historic vehicles.

To ensure the original Scorpion BK was suitable for fitment to the LM002 SUV, Pirelli engineered the tire with lateral winglets – nicknamed ears – which delivered additional agility and driving response when the vehicle was used on sand. An extremely robust and durable carcass was used – complete with anti-cut reinforcement in aramid – to handle the 3,500kg vehicle and the performance levels provided by the V12 powertrain. The carcass Pirelli used also enabled the LM002 to benefit from impact absorption and more precise driving inputs.

Additional design aspects of the Scorpion BK include a tread pattern derived from the intermediate Monte Carlo tread pattern which was cut into the rally slick tires of the era.

Pirelli presented the recreated tire at Fuori Concorso in Villa Sucota on Lake Como, where it equipped a privately owned LM002.
