The official Tour de France Škoda support vehicles of the A.S.O. (Amaury Sport Organisation) will be supplied with Continental’s PremiumContact 6 and EcoContact 6 Q, with the tire maker focusing on sustainable materials in its tire selection.

“We support the Tour de France’s goals for greater sustainability,” commented Enno Straten, head of strategy, analytics and marketing, Continental Tires EMEA. “That’s why it’s only right for us to have the Tour vehicles driving on the latest and most sustainable tires that Continental can currently offer.

The support vehicles tires contain ContiRe.Tex, a technology which utilizes a polyester yarn in the casing produced from used PET bottles, and which was first announced in August 2021. The yarn is made without any intermediate chemical steps and each set of tires is said to contain around 40 reprocessed PET bottles.

“We are very proud that with ContiRe.Tex technology we can introduce another sustainable solution into the world of premium tires. This solution is also successfully used in the Extreme E series and will soon be included in our volume production,” explained Straten. “Riders in the Tour de France also have to expect a wide range of terrains and driving situations and be able to count on safe tire performance. We are convinced that our premium products are the perfect partners on rain-soaked, winding, downhill routes and long flat stages.”

By 2050 Continental wants 100% of the materials used in its tires to be sustainably produced. The company also aims to achieve complete climate neutrality along its entire value chain.

The 109th Tour de France will begin on July 1, 2022, in Copenhagen, Denmark, and will consist of 3,300km and 21 stages. The race will end on the Avenue des Champs Élysées in Paris, France.
