Continental has launched the fifth-generation of its Conti Eco tire line, designed specifically for long-distance and regional freight transportation.
The new line is intended to address the evolving needs of customers in the transportation sector and “a dynamic regulatory environment”, and meets the requirements of the EU Taxonomy for fleets.
The development involved several years of research and testing to ensure its performance and compliance with industry standards.
Ferdinand Hoyos, head of Continental’s Business Area Replacement Tires EMEA, emphasized the tire’s timeliness in addressing challenges faced by fleet operators in Europe, such as rising costs and the increasing focus on sustainability.
Two key benefits the Conti Eco Gen 5 tires offer are a low rolling resistance and high mileage, traditionally seen as conflicting goals in tire development.
The Conti Eco Gen 5 tires can also be equipped with latest-generation sensors, enabling remote monitoring and predictive service planning through the ContiConnect 2.0 tire management solution.
“Our new tire builds on its successful predecessors – the Conti EcoPlus Gen3+ for long-distance haulage and the Conti EcoRegional Gen3+ for regional transport,” explained Hinnerk Kaiser, who is responsible for the development of truck and bus tires at Continental.
“We designed the casings of the new Conti Eco from the outset to make them ideally suited to retreading. The new tire line also contributes in this way to greater cost efficiency and sustainability in the transport sector,” Kaiser said.
The Conti Eco Gen 5 line includes the Conti Eco HS 5 for the tractor unit’s steer axle and the Conti Eco HD 5 for the drive axle. These tires are now available across many countries in the EMEA region.
