In a recent announcement, Apollo Tyres has revealed that it will source all of its natural rubber supplies from companies that have committed to sustainability throughout the supply chain.

The new initiative – which aligns itself with a code of conduct set out by the Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber (GPSNR) – has already been implemented in its entirety by Apollo, and forms part of the tire maker’s Global Sustainability Strategy. The sourcing of the aforementioned 100% natural rubber applies to Apollo Tyres’ two production facilities in the Netherlands and Hungary

Through the commitment the tire maker has made vast changes to its European supply chain, having established new natural rubber supply agreements with businesses committed to sustainable sourcing or with traceable-to-plantation policies.

Going forward, all future tires made at the company’s sites in Europe will be produced using natural rubber sourced from suppliers that have aligned themselves with the GPSNR policy framework.

“Global demand for tires is on the rise, driven by increasing automobile sales and the growth of ride-hailing services, and we are determined to ensure that we – and the suppliers we rely upon – grow in a sustainable way,” said Benoit Rivallant, president and CEO of Apollo Tyres Europe.

“Natural rubber is an environment-friendly raw material, but only if it’s sourced sustainably. It’s our job to work with companies across the value chain to ensure total transparency and help the tire industry manage its environmental and societal impacts.”
