Bridgestone purchases 100% of electricity from renewable sources at six plants in Japan
Six Bridgestone tire and raw material plants in Japan have transitioned to renewable energy sources for 100% of their purchased electricity, with two further Bridgestone chemical and industrial products plants – the Seki Plant and the Kumamoto Plant –in the process of transitioning.
The tire maker plans to continue to expand its use of renewable energy sources moving forward. The latest transition raises the renewable energy ratio (electricity) used at its production bases in the country to approximately 90%.
With aims of reducing absolute CO2 emissions (Scope 1 and 2) by 50% by 2030 compared to 2011 levels, and with a target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, Bridgestone is looking to source more than 50% of its electricity from renewable energy by 2023 and aims to increase this to 100% renewable energy by 2030.
The most recent Bridgestone plants in Japan to source renewable energy for 100% of purchased electricity consist of tire facilities Hofu, Tochigi, Nasu, Kurume and Amagi and raw materials facility Saga.
